McCumbee and SS Green Light Racing Seeks Marketing Partners for Martinsville
It’s a story that will be told over and over during the 2009 racing season; NASCAR team looking for sponsorship to continue racing. So what makes one team’s story different than another? What makes one team more attractive to potential marketing partners than another?

SS Green Light Racing is a survivor. Since the first race of 2001, the team has over 450 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts including 199 straight events. The team has soldered-on with limited resources using dozens of drivers mostly running mid-pack receiving minimal media exposure.

Co-owners Ken Smith and Dotter made the decision following the conclusion of the 2008 season to re-tool the team to run up-front into the spotlight where potential marketing partners can reap benefits of TV, radio, print and internet exposure.  Rather than running two full time trucks, they developed a plan to run a partial schedule with one truck using the available resources from supporters ASI Limited, Spectrum Metal Finishing and Akzo Nobel for 12 races rather than spreading the dollars over a full season.

They also hired a very talented Chad McCumbee who has run part-time in the Sprint Cup series for Petty Enterprises the last two seasons to drive their #07 truck. In addition to his driving talents, the 24-year old McCumbee has a rounded resume as an actor starring in ESPN’s 2004 production of “3: The Dale Earnhardt Story” in which he portrayed a young Dale Earnhardt Jr. and received much critical acclaim for his performance. McCumbee has a unique ability as a spokesman that few in the NASCAR garage areas can equal as well as the youthful look that appeals to corporate marketing executives.

The on-track portion of Smith and Dotters plan is working perfectly; McCumbee and the #07 team are sitting fifth in the Camping World Truck Series points standings after three events. They have two finishes in the top six, including a third place finish at California and a sixth at Atlanta last weekend.

Martinsville Speedway is not one of the races that the SS Green Light team on the original schedule. However the team has a very solid short-track truck race-ready for the trip to the famous Virginia short track. The team needs additional support to cover the expenses involved in competing in the March 28th Kroger 250 that will be shown nationwide on FOX TV.

Smith feels they have much to offer to potential partners, “SS Green Light Racing is full service motorsports marketing organization, not just a name going around a track. We work together with potential partners and then develop the best solution to maximize the most for their marketing dollars. We can deliver a cost-effective package for any company that will bring new business, strengthen relationships and empower employees. We can do this very cost-effectively compared to other teams as we have the infrastructure in place so partnering with SS Green Light Racing is more affordable than you might imagine.”

Dotter, who sits atop the pit-box, has used his experience to propel McCumbee into the top-five points position. “I can’t say enough about where we are as a team, the guys have done a great job both at the track and the shop.” Dotter added, “Chad brings so much to us, if we find a marketing partner for Martinsville (March 28th) and Dover (May 29th) we can keep him in the hunt for the 2009 NCWTS points championship.”

McCumbee has been busy over the last few weeks with numerous media requests spurred by the teams turn-around explained last Thursday on Sirius Radio’s “Morning Drive” with Mike Bagley and David Poole, “We came out of the box super strong and we are sitting fifth in points. Originally Martinsville wasn’t on our list, we are really looking for funding right now to get us there.” He added, “I think we have something to sell right now. This is a veteran team and these guys have really turned this program around. We just need a little more support to get to Martinsville and keep this thing going.”
